ISMAR 2011 invites you to join us in Basel, Switzerland!
The conference will take place at the Conference Center in Basel, Switzerland. Please see our travel information and details about the venue.
Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) allow the creation of fascinating new types of user interfaces which are beginning to have significant impact on industry and society. MR/AR concepts are applicable to a wide range of applications. The field is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together signal processing, computer vision, computer graphics, user interfaces, human factors, wearable computing, mobile computing, computer networks, displays, sensors, to name just some of the most important influences.  Since 1998, ISMAR and its forerunner events, IWAR/ISAR and ISMR, have been the premier forums in this vital field.

Four Days of Conference (October 26.-29.2011)
One full day of Workshops and Tutorials (October 26)
The pre-conference with workshops and tutorials will provide insights current challenges of MR and AR. Additionally conference attendees will get the opportunity to participate in the co-located industrial event AR-today which interlinks the international industry and scientific research.
Three Days of Scientific Conference (October 27.-29.2011)
3 keynote speakers:
Oliver Grau, an art historian and media theorist, Mark Bolas, a research scientist, an artist, and a designer exploring perception, agency, and intelligence and Adrian David Cheok, a research scientist focusing on mixed reality, HCI, wearable computers and ubiquitous computing will approach the subject of Mixed and Augmented Reality and its boundaries from different and surprising angles.

Two conference tracks:
Science and Technology + Arts, Media and Humanities

Science and Technology combines work in computer vision, computer graphics, user interfaces, wearable computing, mobile computing, displays, and sensors. The paper presentation is the core of the conference and gives an overview of current and relevant research worldwide. In the demo & poster session and in the tracking competition scientists in addition will demonstrate the international state of the art.

Arts, Media and Humanities invites artists, designers, architects, urbanists, and scholars to explore Mixed and Augmented Reality within their respective fields.
ISMAR 2011 will show a unique art exhibition as part of the New Media Art Festival Shift in Basel, where Artists will investigate the potentiality of Mixed and Augmented Reality concepts.
